ABOUT LEONORA

 

HI there, I am Leonora Reilly, welcome to my website.  I am an Irish Contemporary Landscape Artist and a keen en-plein air artist.  I always had a love of art from a young age though life took me on a different path, I have found in recent years a way back to my love of creating colourful Irish landscapes and is now enjoying both representational and looser abstracted paintings.  I paint in oils and also use acrylics with mixed media to create either in my home studio or painting en plein air. 

I am from Co Derry, Northern Ireland now living in Co Louth.  There's no doubt living so close to the coast, has influenced my favour for coastal blues and rich teals in my paintings.  Whether creating moody atmospheric paintings full of texture and depth using my favourite knife or painting for fun and applying collage, ink, stencils and other mark making tools, I love to transport the viewer into the world on canvas.   

I have partaken as a Wild Card in the Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year shows in 2019 and 2022 - an the amazing experience on both occasions. 

In Summer 2020, I found my love for painting outdoors attending the week long Dublin Plein Air Painting Festival.  In August 2021, I organised my first major art event - the Louth Plein Air Art Festival - a one day plein air art event in Beaulieu Gardens, Drogheda where over 40 artists travelled to participate from local area and as far away as Roscommon and West Cork. Since July 2022, it has become a 2-day event with different locations in Co Louth.  

The Louth Plein Air Art Festival became a Finalist in the 2023 Northeast Business Excellence Awards with Drogheda & District Chamber.  The 2024 Festival is to take place in Drogheda and another TBC location in the North Louth area.  The Festival has become a huge success for artists and will no doubt continue to be a regular event for all artists near and far.
