Welcome to Leonora Reilly Art
Leonora Reilly is an fine art artist living in Co Louth, originally from Co Derry. I specialise in oils, painting landscapes and scenes which are rich in nature evoking a sense of calm, bringing joy to the heart and mind.
I reignited my love of art and painting in recent years as my children have become older. I attended courses with local professional artists developing my own style and use of colour. I have tended to paint landscapes and images using warm earthy colours creating shadowy scenes full of texture and depth, you can almost smell the outdoors in the air. I want my painting to make you smile, for you to feel a warmth or nostalgia for what you see.
I have always had a love of art, from my first drawing of an elephant aged 7 and painting my granny's back door aged 8- these memories make me smile.
Growing up in our family meant every Sunday my parents, 7 siblings and I would pile into the back of the estate car my dad drove to 'go for a spin' - every trip would be different, to the mountains, seaside or towns of Donegal. Driving around, never getting lost, exploring. Always a road ahead of us and somewhere to see.
As I grew up and moved away I found my Sundays long and kinda lost. I remember going to the local shop and buying sketch books, lead and colour pencils to begin drawing and sketching. I loved getting lost in art.
Today when I paint I am drawn to roads and pathways through woods, trails over bridges, bright and colourful explosions of nature. When you look at my new collection, you will understand what I mean.
Being a long-time fan of the Sky Arts Landscape & Portrait Artist of the Year shows, I had the chance of a lifetime to enter as 1 of the 50 Wild Cards in 2019 in Plymouth - the amazing experience couldn't be dampened by a wet stormy morning. In Summer 2020, I took part in the week long Dublin Plein Air Festival, painting out in local parks.
